Policy strikes and restriction

What a policy strike is, how long it counts, when strikes restrict your account, and where you see your own.

A policy strike is how PerfectPal staff record a confirmed problem with how a seller page follows the rules, for example after looking into a report from a buyer. Strikes are rare: most reports are settled without one, and a report alone never adds a strike.

When you get one

You're emailed as soon as staff add a strike. The email says why, until when the strike counts, how many of your strikes count now and what one more would do. You're emailed again if staff remove one.

How long a strike counts

Each strike counts for a set number of days from the day it's given, then stops counting on its own. Staff can also remove one sooner, for example when a report turns out to be a misunderstanding. A strike that has stopped counting doesn't come back.

What strikes do

  • Below the limit: nothing buyers can see changes. A strike is a warning on your record.
  • At the limit: when a set number of strikes count at the same time, your trust level becomes Restricted automatically. Your page shows the Restricted level, your listings are shown less often in search, your page isn't suggested when buyers search by name, you can't invite other sellers, and some limits, such as how many active listings you can have, are lower. You're emailed when it happens.
  • Afterwards: the restriction lifts by itself once enough strikes stop counting, at the next nightly check, or at once if staff remove one. Your level then goes back to what your record earns.

Strikes never close, suspend or ban an account. Those are separate steps staff take only for serious problems, and you're told the reason.

PerfectPal sets how many strikes restrict an account and how long each one counts. They're the same for every seller.

Where you see yours

While any strike counts, Settings › Verification has a Policy strikes section: each strike with its reason and the day it stops counting, how many more would restrict your account, or, if you're restricted, the day the restriction lifts if no more are given. The same page shows the numbers PerfectPal uses today.

If you think a strike is a mistake, contact support and say which one.
