Contracts

Save your contract wording, send it from a request, and have the buyer sign online.

Your templates

Buyers and paperwork › Contracts keeps your sale contract wording. Start from the suggested contract for your animals, or write your own. Fill-ins in curly brackets, such as {price}, are replaced with details from the request when you send it.

The suggested contracts are a starting point, not legal advice. Laws differ by province and state; have a lawyer review your contract if you can.

How many templates you can keep depends on your plan.

Sending one

  1. Open the request and choose Send a contract.
  2. Start from a template, read it all, and change anything that doesn't fit this sale. Anything still in curly brackets must be filled in.
  3. Type your full name and choose Sign and send.

The buyer signs by typing their name and agreeing to sign electronically. You both find the signed copy on the request, with a signing record and a fingerprint of the exact words.

Sending a new contract cancels one still waiting for the buyer. Once both of you sign a newer one, it replaces the old.

On stock listings, contracts are off unless you turn them on for the listing. See Buy now, inquiry or application?.

Contract before deposit

Tick Buyers sign my contract before they pay a deposit under Settings on the Contracts page, and card deposits wait until the buyer has signed the contract you sent on their request.

Checking a signed copy

Anyone with a copy can check it at Check a contract: paste the text or the fingerprint to see whether both people signed exactly those words.
