Indian ringnecks are slender, long-tailed parakeets that are clever and often talk well. They can be independent and go through a nippy stage, so they do best with gentle, regular handling.
Handling
Ringnecks stay tame with daily handling. Many go through a hormonal 'bluffing' stage as youngsters, when they nip more; staying calm and consistent gets them through it.
With good care many live 20 to 30 years or more, so plan for who will care for your bird if your life changes.
Housing
Their long tails need a tall cage: at least 60 cm wide and 90 cm high, with 1.3 to 1.9 cm bar spacing, so the tail doesn't rub. Daily flight time out of the cage helps keep them fit.
Diet
A quality pellet or seed mix with plenty of vegetables and some fruit.
