Gouldian finches are strikingly colourful and calm. They're more sensitive than many finches, so they suit keepers who can keep their conditions steady.
Lifespan
Typically 5 to 8 years.
Company
Keep them in pairs or groups. Like other finches, they don't enjoy being handled.
Warmth and stress
Gouldians are sensitive to cold, drafts and sudden changes. Keep their room warm and stable, and move or change things gradually.
Housing
A long flight cage or aviary with narrow bar spacing (about 1 cm, 3/8 inch) and room to fly.
Diet
A finch seed mix or pellets, fresh greens and a calcium source. Ask the seller what they feed, as Gouldians are slow to accept new foods.
