Galahs (rose-breasted cockatoos) are playful, affectionate and social, and quieter than most cockatoos. They gain weight easily, so a low-fat diet and daily exercise matter.

A lower-fat diet

Feed a quality pellet with plenty of vegetables and greens. Keep sunflower seeds and nuts to small treats; galahs are prone to obesity and fatty tumours.

Housing and exercise

A large cage with secure latches and several hours out every day. Galahs love to chew, so give plenty of wood and cardboard.

With good care many live 30 to 50 years or more, so plan for who will care for your bird if your life changes.

Company

Like other cockatoos, galahs need daily company and things to do, or they may scream or pull their feathers.
