Bare domains (no www)
How to use yourname.com without www, and the simpler alternative.
A bare domain like yourname.com can't use an ordinary CNAME record. You have three options.
1. Switch to www (simplest)
On the domain page, choose Use www.yourname.com. It keeps your TXT record, and www takes an ordinary CNAME at every provider. Then use your registrar's forwarding (sometimes called a redirect) to send yourname.com to https://www.yourname.com.
2. An ALIAS or ANAME record
Many DNS providers (Cloudflare, Namecheap, Porkbun, DNSimple and others) offer an ALIAS or ANAME record, sometimes called a CNAME at the root or CNAME flattening. Point it at the address the page shows. It keeps working if PerfectPal's server address ever changes.
3. A records
If your provider has none of those (GoDaddy, for example), choose My DNS provider has none of these and add the A records the page shows instead. If PerfectPal's server address ever changes, you'll need to update them; you'll be told.
In every case the TXT record from step 2 is still needed. The @ in a record name means the domain itself; some providers want the full name instead, or an empty box.
Both addresses
Once one address is live, you can point the other one at PerfectPal too (the page shows how), and visitors who type it are sent to your main address, with a secure connection on both.
