Red-tail shark care

There's no guide just for Red-tail shark yet. Here's caring for barbs, danios and rasboras; ask the seller about anything specific to this species.

Adult size
About 12 cm
Water temperature
22–26 °C
pH
6.5–7.5
Smallest tank
200 litres
Temperament
Semi-aggressive
Care level
Moderate

Barbs, danios, rasboras and minnows are active schooling fish, mostly hardy and great for community tanks. Some barbs nip fins, and danios love open swimming space and current.

Groups and tankmates

Keep them in groups of six or more. Tiger barbs can be nippy; a larger group spreads it out, and they're best kept away from slow, long-finned fish.

Tank

Give danios a long tank with open water and some flow. Tiny rasboras like chili rasboras suit small, planted tanks with gentle filters.

Use a lid: danios and rasboras can jump.

Temperature

White cloud minnows and gold barbs like cooler water and often need no heater; most others prefer 22 to 26°C.
